ETHICAL JEWELLERY MADE FROM RECYCLED SILVER AND FAIRTRADE GOLD
Each piece of silver FERA jewellery is proudly produced using recycled silver. This means that silver sourced from scrap and other industries is reprocessed back down to sterling silver quality again, before being used to create our handmade jewellery.
In this way we hope to create a little less impact on our beautiful planet. Metals are of course a natural resource, and one day will run out. Not to mention the effect that mining has on the natural landscape.
We are also delighted to be registered with the FairTrade Association as a Fairtrade Goldsmith. This means we are certified to buy FairTrade gold and sell FERA pieces with the Fairtrade gold assurance behind us.
Ethically sourced gold is different for many reasons. Artisanal and small scale miners make up 90% of the mining industry labour force and without regulation they are subject to exploitation with gold pricing when selling their gold, often receiving upto 25% less than its value. Dangerous working conditions are common, as are lack of training and health and safety awareness in an industry where toxic chemicals and explosives are commonly used.
Fairtrade cuts out the need for buyers and middlemen because registered companies buy directly from the mine, thereby ensuring a fair price for miners. Fairtrade gold suppliers and registered jewellers are audited regularly to ensure criteria to meet the Fairtrade assurance are met
Fairtrade is a lifeline for many communities who may not have agriculture or other industries available to them. We are proud to offer this ethical jewellery choice to our customers who wish to use their consumer power for the greater good of the planet and it's people
